Snow Day, January 10, 2025
Goddard Public Schools Families, Goddard Public Schools will not be in school on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, due to ongoing hazardous driving conditions. City, County, and District crews are working tirelessly to clear roadways, parking lots, and sidewalks, and we offer our deepest appreciation to them for their dedicated efforts. Given the extent of snow/ice in neighborhoods across the District, additional time is needed to ensure a safe return to school. Thank you for your continued patience and understanding.

Happy New Year
This week, Mrs. Busby’s 6th grade social studies classes took their teamwork skills to the next level by hosting Minute to Win It activities for 3rd and 4th grade classes! After learning about the power of collaboration and teamwork in their own studies, our 6th graders stepped up as leaders, creating fun and challenging activities to share these valuable lessons with younger students. It was a joy to watch the energy, laughter, and collaboration fill the room as students of all ages worked together to conquer the clock. Great job, 6th graders, for being such fantastic leaders and role models!

"A positive attitude causes a chain reaction of positive thoughts, events, and outcomes. It is a catalyst and it sparks extraordinary results." – Wade Boggs Congratulations to Mrs. Robin Perkins for receiving the District Attitude Award! Robin was nominated by Piper White and Dane Baxa. Piper White wrote, “The print shop is not an easy or stress-free environment especially when you get multiple orders each day from all around the district, but Robin does so with a smile on her face. At the beginning of the year (or her busiest time) she and her staff worked so hard to make sure all staff had the orders before the first day of school. On top of just getting us the orders she also wrote positive messages that always leave us smiling. Robin communicates effectively, and if there is ever a rush order needed, she is not afraid of the challenge. Robin is a rock star!” Dane Baxa wrote, “Robin Perkins stepped up to help the District in a big way after the sudden loss of Nancy Johnson. Robin is more than just a skilled Print Shop operator; she’s a problem-solver who brings positivity and energy to her work every day. She often anticipates the needs of teachers, administrators, and staff, frequently stepping in to assist with last-minute requests and high-volume projects without hesitation. Her reliability and willingness to do whatever it takes to support others have made her an invaluable resource. She developed a plan to visit every school during orientation, making a personal connection with as many staff members as possible, building positive relationships, and explaining the services she provides and the process for submitting print jobs. Beyond her exceptional technical abilities, Robin’s attitude exemplifies the values of our district. Her commitment to excellence and genuine kindness uplift everyone she works with. She is always quick to offer encouragement, inspiring our Community Relations Team and those around her.”

Parents/Guardians, Vision Screenings will be administered in the month of November to students: New to the Goddard School District and 5th graders Vision screening does not replace a complete vision exam conducted by an eye care professional. If your child has been seen by an optometrist of ophthalmologist this year, please obtain a copy of the results to share with the school nurse. Why it is important for schools to provide vision screenings: Children with vision problems may not know they are having trouble seeing in the classroom. Without early detection and treatment, a child’s vision problems can lead to permanent vision loss and learning difficulties. Vision screenings at Challenger will consist of the following: 1. Distance visual acuity – ability to see objects/print far away 2. Binocular vision – how well the eyes work together 3. Color vision – ability to see colors 4. Near vision acuity – ability to see objects/print up close 5. Instrument-based screening – provides estimates of seeing objects far away and up close, blurred vision, unequal vision between the two eyes, and eye misalignment How results will be shared with guardians: If your student passes the vision screening, those results will be placed in the students chart and no further action is needed by guardians. If your student does not pass the vision screening, the school nurse will contact you via letter with results and recommendations for further evaluation by an eye care professional. If you have any questions about your students vision screening, please call the school nurse. If you do have concerns regarding your student’s academic progress due to eye issues, a complete examination by an eye care professional is highly recommended. Thank you, Heather Bogle BSN, RN Challenger School Nurse
